The Power of the Resurrection
This is the theme for our spring art fair. We are encouraging adults, youth and children to contribute pieces focused on this theme for display in our fair March 28-April 25.
Entries are due March 22. Entries should be inspired by any one or more of the many facets of the resurrection of Christ and its power in our lives and in the world. Please look below for details on how entries are to be received or call 901-255-8153 for more details.
Adult art (including paintings, photos or poems) must be framed (canvas paintings stretched over a frame are acceptable, suitable frames for poetry or photos). Prose works should be bound in some way. Sculpture should be mounted for display. Children's art should have some simple frame or be laminated. Please fill out and turn in the entry form found at the front desk of the worship center with your entry (or you may click

Introduction to Drawing
Dates March 25-May 6 in room 1261
Thursdays from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Ages 16 and up
In this 7 week class we will learn the basic methods artists all over the world have been using for centuries to design and create there works of high art. This class is designed for beginners to the very skilled and will be a pencil and/or charcoal study, or if you feel more comfortable with color feel free to bring those supplies. However, this will be a primarily pencil focused class. The class will study simple principles such as, shading, composition, layout, and proper pencil strokes. These principles are useful in all mediums of art from painting and graphic design to photography and sculpture. There is no charge for the class but you must provide your own supplies listed below.
Materials
o Pencils (HB, B, 2B 3B, 4B)
o some form of pencil sharpener/ exacto knife
o Kneaded eraser
o (optional) Charcoal/ white chalk, colored pencils, markers, oil/acrylic paints
o 18"x 24" newsprint (only if you wish to work with charcoal)
o 18" x 24"pad of acid free paper
Syllabus
o Class will cover gradient shading, 3-D shapes, and simple perspective
o Overall layouts, z-pattern, golden mean, will start geometric still life drawing.
o Continue still-life drawing #1
o Finish Still life #1, class review and discussion
o Cover cross hatching, and textural pencil strokes, start natural still-life #2
o Continue still-life drawing #2
o Finish Still-life, class review and discussion
