Adoption Team
We have challenged each Sunday School Class to adopt a local mission's organization and a foreign missionary.
The partnership with a local agency will include:
* Having the local missions representative present the ministry they represent to the Connecting Point class
* Communicating monthly prayer needs of the organization to the class
* Quarterly mission projects with the organization. The class may open this project and advertise it church-wide for increased participation. The class should visit the ministry of the agency and see what they do firsthand. By a personal visit, the class will be better able to understand how they can assist in this ministry.
* Financial support as a love offering from the class
* Serving as an advocate for the mission agency to the church
The partnership with a foreign missionary will include:
* Having the missionary advocate (person on the advocate team [see above] who represents this missionary) present to the Connecting Point class the ministry of the missionary. If no advocate is assigned, the coordinator of the class will be asked to contact the missionary and become familiar with the ministry and family of the missionary.
* Covering the missionary with prayer and lifting up specific prayer requests to our Lord on behalf of the missionary and their ministry work. This should be done on a regular basis. Set a goal to contact and send correspondence to your adopted foreign missionary at least every other month.
* Assisting the advocate team in connecting with the missionary. This may be by emails, cards, gifts, and donations. Ideas include sending homemade Valentines, Easter baskets in the spring and Christmas goodies in December. Make a scrapbook of photos of your class and send it to your missionary so they can see who is praying for them. The possibilities are endless; the important thing is to let them know you care about them and their ministry.
* Having the missionary speak to the class when he or she is in town. If out of town, consider a video or audio message from the missionary.
* If possible, participating with a short-term mission team to serve alongside the missionary in the field, and/or setting aside money from class funds to send a representative on a short-term trip to your missionary.
Both partnerships will include:
* Prayer. Each member of the class can take a different day of the week to pray for your adopted missionary or local organization. On the day you pray, you may choose to send an email to the missionary or contact person at the local mission organization and let them know you care and lifted them up to the Lord in prayer today.
* Your class Mission Coordinator can keep in regular contact with the missionary via email.
