Tim and Michelle Burns
Commitment to God, Commitment to Family
By Leah Stanley
Raising a healthy, loving family has proven to be a challenge ever since Adam and Eve first had trouble with their boy Cain. Good parenting takes a lot of patience, a lot of love and a solid commitment to pray and read God's Word daily for instructions. But it also takes a dedicated church congregation who will provide prayerful support for people who are on the front lines of parenthood. For Tim and Michelle Burns, that congregation is the one at Central Church.
"Central is where we are fed as a family with God's Word," Michelle said. "This church is true to that and I know they will remain true to that." Tim and Michelle have both been at Central since high school. They were introduced by mutual friends and started dating while still in college. They have been married for 11 years and have three boys: Connor, 7: Jared, 5 and Tyler, 2. Tim works in Real Estate for Fed Ex while Michelle is involved in a variety of the church's ministries. She is one of two part-time Parents' Day Out/Pre-school Ministry coordinators and she will be involved in the Family Life Center's fitness ministry teaching aerobics and personal training. She also leads a women's Bible study on Thursday mornings and home schools her son Connor. Michelle cites the commitment she and Tim have made to each other and to their children as one of the most precious things in their lives. "It's a huge blessing to have our family time," she said, "It is extremely high on our list of priorities because we've committed to do what's best for our family."
Tim agrees, adding that members of Central Church are also like family to him, and their ministries and support cannot be underestimated. "One of the greatest things about this church is that there is something for everyone," he said.
The Burns' are actively involved in various ministries at Central; their children have all come up through the Parents' Day Out programs and Tim and Michelle are members of the Joint Heirs One Sunday School class. Michelle, who has been involved in Bible study groups since she first joined the church, said she is very thankful for the women of Central who have prayed for her and offered her sound Biblical direction.
"These are faithful women who teach God's Word," she said. "They are dedicated prayer warriors."
Because her faith has been such a key part of her life, Michelle wants to urge people to stay committed to Christ and to His Word.
"Whatever avenue He wants to use you in, stay committed to Him," she said, "and you can't go wrong."
