A Word From Randall Johnson
Randall and Mary Ann Johnson
A Sunday evening meeting at Central Church in 1969, when it was still on Poplar at Massey, was the moment in which God's invitation to embrace Christ as the source of life and forgiveness broke down my resistance and began my journey with Jesus. Not long after this, during a vacation trip to my previous home in Pueblo, Colorado, I stood on the sidewalk in front of my former house and experienced a wave of despair. My former life had been so purposeless and meaningless without Christ. The memory was overwhelming. But now all that had changed. I soon discovered, back at Central, that God had given me a thirst to know and teach the Bible. So I decided to attend Mid-South Bible College (now Crichton College), which prepared me well for graduate studies at Dallas Theological Seminary from 1975-1979. I pursued a Doctor of Ministry degree at Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi and was awarded this doctorate in May of 1998.
I have been on staff at Central Church since June 1980. In that time I have worn many hats. Right now I act as the Director of Adult Education and I am more excited than ever about the potential of discipleship and serving Christ. My wife, Mary Ann, and I have been married since June 1973 and have four children: Kara, our oldest, who is married to Johnpaul Moses and has two daughters, Alyssa and Kelsey; Daniel, who is working full time, running sound for a local Christian praise band, and is married to Marilyn; Stephen, who has graduated Gordon-Conwell Seminary in Boston and is married to Sonia, with their daughters Ester and Sarah; and Sarah, who has graduated from the University of Memphis and working full time and is married to Billy Egner.
My vision for single adults is that they discover how God has gifted them and how to prepare themselves to use their God-given abilities in His service to Him. I see our ministry as one that helps them catch this vision and become devoted disciples of Jesus Christ.
