"Exalting Christ" Class for Young Marrieds and Singles
(9:25 in room 158 starting April 15)
At Central, our mission is to make disciples who worship God, love people, reach the lost, build believers, and equip disciples. The hope and prayer of the Exalting Christ Connecting Point is that God would work through us to help fulfill this mission within His church.
To make disciples who worship God - Becoming a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ means that God's word is a living and active part of your life. In the Exalting Christ group we will seek to ground all that we do in the truth of God's word. God's word is a lamp to our feet and a light for our path (Psalm 119:105). Teaching will be focused on the practical application of Biblical truths to transform lives. Each of us is in desperate need of Jesus Christ. Everyone who has accepted Him is going through the life-transforming process of sanctification (becoming more and more like Him). Therefore, a vital part of the group is the honesty and transparency we share with one another as Christ works in our lives. With this in mind, we believe the best approach to Bible study is a format that affords every person the opportunity to share. Bible studies will be discussion oriented, utilizing various small circle groups with a focus on life change. Our great hope is that as we become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ, being conformed to the truth of His word, our entire lives will become worship unto Him and Christ will be exalted.
Love people - Jesus said that people would know that we are His disciples if we love one another (John 13:35). Our desire is that God would work through us in love. An active expression of love is the giving of our time. When we invest our time in another person, it says they are important to us, they are loved. In the Exalting Christ group this means that we are actively involved in each other's lives. Therefore, we seek to exalt Christ as we invest in one another's lives through our Sunday morning group, our weekly Bible study groups, our monthly class socials and our monthly men's and women's worship groups.
Reach the lost - Not only are we called to love one another, but we are also called to take His love and make it known to all. Becoming a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ means that we will actively seek to reach the lost. This is currently being done through our monthly service to the Calvary Rescue Mission and with weekly service to the Sheffield Football FCA program (in season). We will continually challenge one another to reach out to the lost in our workplaces, extended families and neighborhoods. Our hope and prayer is that Christ will be exalted through us and that He will continue to place various ministries and people on our hearts so that we might share His glorious love.
Build believers and Equip disciples - God has given every believer spiritual gifts. As we follow Jesus Christ and allow Him to administer His gifts through us, the body of Christ is built up and Christ is exalted. Our desire is that every person in the Exalting Christ group would exercise their gifts. Some have been given the gift of teaching. Some have been given the gift of encouragement. Others have been given the gift of mercy or administration or helps and service. Whatever the gifts are, the expectation is that all would actively participate in the use of their own gifts. As the gifts are being exercised, disciples will be equipped and the entire body will be built up in Christ.
This is the vision God has given us for the Exalting Christ group. It is a God sized vision. It is one that only He can carry out. It is our hope that God would accomplish this through us and abundantly more as He takes this group and multiplies it (through future Connecting Point classes) over and over again. May Christ be exalted!
