The Overcomers Class...Lavish Buffets and Two Classes in One
If you're wondering how a group of singles and couples in their 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's can get along and enjoy fellowship and learning together, the answer according to this class is, "Quite well!" And if you wondered if two different classes with their own teacher could blend together to form one class, wonder no more. The Overcomers have done it.
K. C. Winters and Dr. Bill Berry now trade off teaching responsibilities, each doing various series of lessons pertinent to the needs of the Overcomers. Each offers a unique style and perspective that gives just the right variety to their teaching. K.C. comes from a background in Campus Crusade for Christ and is currently pursuing a counseling degree from Harding Graduate School of Religion here in Memphis, working as he goes to pay the bills. He has worked with Love in Action, a local ministry dedicated to helping men and women who struggle with sexual addiction. If you ask K. C. he'll tell you that the passion of his teaching and ministry is transparency and the application of practical biblical principles to transform the lives of real people with real problems. From his own background of sexual brokenness and recovery from homosexual behavior K.C. has learned much about God's grace and gained tremendous hope for what God can and will do in the lives of those He loves. And he has a heart to give back more than he's been given...a heart for the hurting that shows up whether he is teaching, counseling, witnessing or just being a friend. More than just principles, he has a heart to make God's Word real and break it down so that it matters to you in your everyday life, challenges, failures and problems. In part, the openness and family atmosphere of the class is a reflection of his own realness.

Bill Berry, who is married to Elly, a Dutch transplant to the U.S., is a speech pathologist and administrator for rehab services at the Memphis Veterans Administration Medical Center for 31 years. He and Elly are parents of two and grandparents of two little girls. Besides Bill's busy schedule at work, as an elder of Central Church, and a Sunday school teacher, he oversees Battle Plan Ministries {BPM} which helps men who struggle with habitual sexual sin and supports those who love them. BPM has reached around the world with the Battle Plan website [www.battleplanministries.org]. Elly has assisted him by providing online support and advice to many of the wives of the strugglers who come to BPM.
Bill came to Christ after being a cynical non-believer, having been broken in his own sexual sin in the early 80's. God then brought healing into his life and restoration to the Berry's marriage and family that was close to destruction prior to Christ. Bill often says, "Only Jesus could've taken a broken agnostic and recreated him into an Elder at Central Church." Ask Bill sometime how he's doing, ... he'll probably respond, "Much better than I deserve." And he means it!
So, you can see that K.C. and Bill are overcomers in their lives as leaders of the "Overcomers" group. This class meets each Sunday in rooms 153-156 (fellowship hall area) at 11:00 a.m. You would be hard-pressed to find a more loving group or more excellent teaching.
