EVANGELISM DEFINED.

Evangelism is the Spirit-empowered act of proclaiming the significance of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, in love and in words, to someone who is not worshipping Him—so that by God’s appeal through His church, the unbeliever is called to repent of their sins, believe in Jesus, and become His lifelong disciple.

6 COMPONENTS OF BIBLICAL EVANGELISM

1. Its aim is worship. Evangelism is the public praising of God and His redemption before a non-believer. Moreover, evangelism is the summons for others to join you in worshipping the true and living God.

2. Its content is Scripture. God speaks to this lost and dying world via His Word. Because God has spoken, we His people must also speak His Word to those around us.

3. Its context is discipleship. Evangelism is the first step in making a disciple of Jesus. Because evangelism is the work of discipleship, we must not be content with merely speaking the gospel. Out of love, we must be prepared to follow up and bring those who respond to the gospel into a discipleship relationship.

4. Its home base is the local church. Every believer needs the local church to be equipped for the work of the ministry, to be held accountable to teach the right message, and to be encouraged to live out the message we proclaim.

5. Its heart is love. Biblical evangelism is not a mere duty. It is a delight. At its root, biblical evangelism is a vivid expression of loving God and loving others.

6. Its activity is God’s activity. When the gospel is faithfully proclaimed, God speaks to non-believers through His people. We must view evangelism as ultimately God’s activity because biblical evangelism is a matter of resurrection. The sinner’s heart is spiritually dead, and only God can raise it to life.
